BAKER VOLUNTEERS HELP SNOWBOUND SENIORS
Rushern L Baker, III organized volunteers to help seniors and those with medical and physical limitations by clearing snow from walks and driveways all over Prince George's County. A special thanks goes out to the dozens of enthusiastic volunteers, some of whom worked for hours at multiple sites in freezing temperatures in support of the Big Dig effort. Off-duty members of the Fire Fighters and EMS union as well as a team from the African Leadership Empowerment Council offered a huge hand in Capitol Heights.
Many people emailed and called, sharing how they organized teams in their neighborhood to support the Big Dig effort from Suitland to Laurel. Yet, calls for assistance with unplowed streets, trapped seniors, stuck cars, and others needing help reached the campaign hotline as late as a full 30 hours after the all-volunteer effort. With more snow falling, please help your neighbors. Organize teams and use this time off work to clear walks and driveways that remain untouched. Gather some friends and family and patrol as wide an area as you can, looking to help those in need. This spirit of community isn't just how we will counter stormy times, but how we will prevail no matter the challenge and soon be a county that is first in education and last in crime.
As Rushern said during the Big Dig: "In some cases we're digging out driveways. Right now we're working on a senior citizen who's on dialysis. ...Just whatever people need."

POLICE AND FIRST RESPONDERS QUESTION CANDIDATES; MAKE ENDORSEMENTS
Rushern Baker welcomes the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police Loge 89 and The Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics Association (Local 1619). The working men and women responsible for protecting the lives and property of Prince Georgians asked tough questions and ultimately decided Rushern Baker is the candidate that can serve the county best in the coming years. Return to our website for more updates, as Rushern plans to publicly accept both endorsement in separate press conferences, shortly after the official launch of the campaign.
Team Baker wishes to thank the Police, Fire Fighters, Paramedics, Corrections, and Deputy Sheriffs unions for taking the bold step of challenging the prospective candidates to answer questions early in the 2010 electoral process. Rushern Baker understands that the county's reputation and prosperity depends on outstanding results from all of these critical areas. We cannot balance the budget on the backs of these workers, continue to remain understaffed, and offer little to no incentive for these dedicated heroes and heroines to live in the neighborhoods they serve. Before companies bring their employees and jobs to Prince George's they want proof that we are not content to inch along when it comes to crime and education. All candidates may understand that, but what is needed is commitment and practice. Lives remain at stake, which is why Rushern Baker has pledged to not balance the budget on the backs of our teachers or public safety workers.
Check the Issues link for additional information on the Baker public safety stance, with a podcast interview on the topic scheduled for debut soon. Hear Rushern Baker discuss strategies for: retaining experienced workers; the unique relationship between the volunteer and civil Fire Fighters; why letting police officers take their vehicles home may benefit the county; and, ways to attract and retain personnel for Corrections, Police, Sheriffs, and Fire departments.
Thanks to Everyone That Helped With The Big Dig Effort!
