Meet Rushern

One thing that will never be said of Rushern Baker is that he waits around for change to happen. Rather, he narrows in on a problem and dedicates himself to solving it however he can. That urgency to create meaningful change has guided him throughout his life.

His father, a Green Beret whose service brought his family from Georgia, to Japan, to Massachusetts, taught him that leadership isn’t just about having ideas, but about compassion and delivering outcomes.

Rushern believes that action, not talk, is key to achieving real solutions for people.

Rushern was first elected into public office in 1994 to the Maryland House of Delegates. He quickly earned a reputation as a consensus builder and made improving public schools his signature passion.

In 2010, Rushern was elected County Executive of Prince George’s County. Since day one, he has worked closely with communities and regional partners to pursue positive change, focusing on creating jobs, growing the economy, and improving public safety and education.

Rushern and his wife, Christa Beverly, live in Cheverly, Md. where they have raised their three children.
